About GVS - Veterinary Laboratories Agency

Veterinary Laboratories AgencyVLA aims to safeguard public and animal health through world class veterinary research and surveillance of farmed livestock and wildlife. It does this by providing a specialist veterinary resource to the UK Government so that they, in turn, can fulfil their aims and objectives in relation to veterinary public health and the development of sustainable agriculture and food industries. Many of the agency’s services are also made available to the private sector.

VLA comprises a network of sixteen laboratories across the UK with its headquarters in Weybridge, Surrey. It employs around 1,300 staff, of which around 100 are vets. These vets work in a wide range of disciplines within the areas of research, surveillance, animal services and general management.
