Scottish Government logoAnimal health and welfare in Scotland is a devolved responsibility. Veterinary advice to Scottish Ministers and the Scottish Government is provided by the Chief Veterinary Officer Scotland, Charles Milne, who leads a small team of veterinary advisers based at Pentland House in Edinburgh.

The CVO Scotland is also responsible for implementing Scottish animal health & welfare policies. This work is carried out by veterinary and lay staff located in five Animal Health Offices and six sub offices under the direction of the Head of Veterinary Services Scotland, whose office is in Grayfield House in Edinburgh.

The SVS in Scotland deal with highland cowsAll the veterinary and technical staff in the field and the Edinburgh offices are part of the GB wide Animal Health agency. However Administrative support in all the Scottish offices is provided by the Scottish Government.
