About GVS - Defra
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has a broad range of responsibilities relating to food, animal health and welfare, air, water and rural communities. Its objectives include protecting and improving the environment both at home and internationally through the sustainable use of natural resources, achieving economic prosperity through the promotion and sponsorship of sustainable farming, fishing, food, water and other industries that meet the consumers’ requirements, and promoting diverse, modern and adaptable farming practices with a view to improving the economies of rural communities and ensuring an attractive and well managed countryside.
