This page provides a brief introduction to this scheme, to help you decide if it is relevant or if you may be eligible. You should always read the detailed scheme information (go to "Get the details...") before deciding whether you wish to apply.

Information on this page:

What's it for?

The Aggregates Levy reduces demand for primary aggregates by increasing their cost and makes the use of recycled and secondary materials more viable. The Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF) uses revenue from the Aggregates Levy to address those environmental impacts.

Roughly the Aggregates Levy raises £300m per year and £35m per year is channelled into the Fund in the UK (£29.3m in England).

The ALSF in England has the following objectives:

  1. Minimising the demand for primary aggregates
  2. Promoting environmentally friendly extraction and transport
  3. Addressing the environmental impacts of past aggregates extraction
  4. Compensating local communities for the impacts of aggregates extraction.

Who's it for?

Any individual or organisation that has a project proposal that addresses Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund objectives.

Is the scheme open to new applicants?
