Slaughter

The Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995

These Regulations lay out in detail the requirements for restrainment, stunning and slaughter of farm animals including poultry. General requirements are that avoidable excitement, pain and suffering whilst animals are being moved, lairaged, restrained, stunned and killed must be prevented.

There are several references which are specific to poultry, including the handling of birds in containers, restraining and suspension of birds, methods for killing birds and surplus chicks and embryos in hatchery waste.
