The Welfare of Animals at Markets Order 1990 SI No 2628

This Order makes provision for the welfare of animals at markets. Generally, it is an offence to permit unfit poultry to be presented for sale or to cause or permit unnecessary suffering. Birds should be handled properly and must not be suspended by the wing, or tied by the neck, leg or wing. Excessive force must not be used to control birds and cages for poultry should allow them to stand in their natural position. Feed and water should be supplied at specified intervals.
