Food Chain Programme: School Food and Public Procurement

Aim

As part of the Government’s programme to improve school food, Defra and the FCP are supporting a three-part programme of activity:

1.  Supporting small and local food producers to create regional or sub-regional groups that will be well-placed and encouraged to bid to supply school food;
2.  Securing greater commitment to the Government’s Public Sector Food Procurement Initiative (PSFPI) from leaders in the education sector (and other public sectors);
3.  A ‘Year of Food and Farming’ in the education sector to run from 2007-08.

This Defra activity forms part of a wider DCSF-led school food programme.  For more information please visit the PSFPI website.
