Food and drink: International trade

Defra ensures that UK supply chain interests are represented, fully  in EU and international food negotiations. We therefore consider and comment upon draft legislation (for example, where the Food Standards Agency lead on negotiations in Brussels) and proposed trade agreements (where the EU Commission leads on negotiations with third countries or trading blocs).

Defra also has responsibility for UK input to the work of the EU Management Committee for processed agricultural products (the “Non-Annex I Management Committee”) whose principal function is to administer the non-Annex I export refund regime. The Rural Payments Agency has responsibility for operating the non-Annex I export refund regime.
