Farm Health Planning in the Poultry and Game Sectors
For many poultry and game farmers, farm health planning is not a new concept. Farmers who are members of Assured Chicken Production (ACP), Quality British Turkey, Freedom Foods or other schemes know that without a health plan they don’t comply with the rules of the scheme.
Health planning does not begin and end with the development of a health plan. Health planning is a work in progress that needs to be reviewed regularly to be effective. Regular reviews will help you to see continuous improvements in health status on your farm and of its productivity.
As an industry, we are working with Defra to promote proactive farm health planning. A pilot project is underway to identify the current status of poultry farm health planning and to develop a generic planning template that can be used by all poultry farmers and keepers. We are also developing a series of communications and workshops for the game sector in late Winter. This website will provide updates and more information on each of these projects
