XLVets North Project
“Health Planning is a concept and state of mind rather than a dusty unopened document on a shelf. It is a dynamic process, utilising risk assessment and measurement of disease levels on an individual unit, and agreeing an approach to prevent and control those diseases relevant to that enterprise; hence improving productivity and welfare.”
This project will promote active health planning through the formation of farm health teams on dairy farms in England. It will seek to change the current mindset associated with the production of a health plan and in doing so address the barriers to health planning identified in the MDC/ Defra report published in June 2006. The project is led by David Black of the Paragon Veterinary Group a member of XL Vet UK Ltd and is partnered by 7 other XLVet member veterinary practices. In addition ADAS, The Dairy Group and The Appetite/ EBVC Consultancy will provide partnership support to the project. Eight Champion farms will be used to provide a forum for active learning.
