Farm Health Planning: About
The partnership
Industry is working in partnership with Defra to promote farm health planning as a way of managing disease and improving livestock performance in England. The partnership involves leading industry organisations, veterinarians, other advisors and farmers who are all committed to the sustainability and competitiveness of the farming industry through farm health planning.
The Farm Health Planning project
The Animal Health and Welfare Strategy for Great Britain was developed in consultation with industry. During the consulting process it became clear that good farm health planning is one of the most effective ways of tackling animal disease and improving the performance of your livestock. The Farm Health Planning project is a key initiative under the Animal Health and Welfare Strategy. The aims and activities of this work were agreed in partnership with industry and can be found in the Action Plan on Positive Animal Health. A Working Group which represents interested parties throughout the farming industry has been set up to facilitate partnership working and take farm health planning forward.
Each sector approaches the project and partnership working in the way that best fits with its needs through subgroups of the Working Group (except in the case of pigs where the Pig Health and Welfare Council fulfils this role). Progress on the uptake of farm health planning activities will be monitored against an independent evidence baseline prepared by ADAS.
Farm Health Planning in Scotland and Wales
The Scottish and Welsh Administrations are also progressing farm health planning initiatives. You can find out about these initiatives on their websites:
