Farming new entrants - start your own Fresh Start academy

Land based colleges, Regional or County Training Groups, Land Agents / Farm Business Advisers /consultants and Young Farmers’ Clubs (field officers), Regional NFU & CLA offices all have a key role to play in developing Academies.

Other partners can include smallholders clubs and providers of short courses. This can help to open up the Academy to non-farming potential new entrants. Local / County Agricultural Societies can also be included as partners.

Business Links may provide the co-ordination of the mentoring support.

Around 20 candidates who are suitable to take part in the Academy should be identified. Experience to date suggests that 15-20 Academy Members is an ideal size.

How long will it take to set up?

Experience suggests that the period from first discussions to the launch meeting could be a matter of months, with the right guidance and a positive approach.

How much does it cost?

A good deal of the costs have been met by the key stakeholders themselves. Each Academy will need a co-ordinator whose time and costs will need to be paid for, depending on the level of stakeholder support.
