Getting state aid cover

There are four types of cover:

  • Notifiable aids need to be notified to and approved by the European Commission
  • Exempted aids do not need to be approved by the European Commission, but we still need to provide the European Commission with certain information
  • De minimis aids do not need to be reported to the European Commission but are still subject to certain restrictions.
  • Rural development aids do not usually need to be reported to the European Commission because they are approved as part of the rural development programming process.

Which type of cover you can use depends on whether the specific aid you want to grant meets the rules for each type of cover. You might have a choice.
