Levy Boards restructing: background
On 28 June 2006, Jeff Rooker, announced the continuation of statutory levies in the agriculture and horticulture sector, a “Fresh Start” review of levy board activities and levy rates, and a new levy board structure to come into effect by 1 April 2008.
A new levy board, with a number of subsidiary sectoral companies, will replace the following five existing levy bodies:
- British Potato Council
- Horticultural Development Council
- Home Grown Cereals Authority
- Meat and Livestock Commission
- Milk Development Council
Separate announcements were made by Ministers in the Scottish Executive and the Welsh Assembly Government concerning the future of the meat bodies: Quality Meat Scotland and Hybu Cig Cymru.
