Farming: Policy - EU, International, WTO, State Aid
The government promotes sustainable, diverse, modern and adaptable farming. To this end it is involved in a number of key international policy initiatives:
Aimed at further liberalisation of agricultural trade, which will support sustainable development and worldwide economic growth. It should also improve opportunities for UK exporters.
Enlargement of the European Union will boost European stability, security, trade and consumer choice. It will also extend EU standards for food safety, for animal welfare and for a cleaner environment across Europe in general.
State aid uses money from Government resources to give businesses an advantage over their competitors. This information is aimed at Government administrators, local authorities and other Government bodies who are considering paying out state aid in the agriculture sector. State aids must comply with rules agreed by the European Union.
