Council proposal on private storage aid

The Management Committee for Pigmeat backed a Commission proposal to introduce a private storage aid scheme for pigmeat in response to the current difficult situation on the market. The start date was October 2007.

Under the programme, operators who stored meat at their own expense and their own risk were eligible to receive a Community aid to cover storage costs.

Applications for the private storage aid scheme have now closed.

To extend the duration of private storage aid for up to 3 months, applications should be submitted no later than 3 days before the end of the original contract ,should be made through the intervention body and can only be made once.

Further details can be found in the Regulation (PDF on EUR-Lex website).

Updating guidance on the Rounding of weights recorded by Abattoirs for pig, sheep and cattle carcases

Previous guidance concerning the recording of pig, sheep and cattle carcase weights, in particular the practice of ‘rounded down’ to the nearest 0.5kg, has recently been updated. The original MLC guidance (revised 1985) was produced when manual scales were common, it is now deemed suitable to update this guidance in line with technical improvements. Further information:
