Catchment Sensitive Farming Programme: State Aid
Why do we need to submit an application for State Aid?
The market for agricultural products is highly integrated across the European Union and all farmers receive the same types of subsidy under the Common Agriculture Policy. The agriculture sector is dominated by small and medium sized enterprises with small profit margins. For these reasons, even small amounts of aid have the potential to distort competition.
Because the ECSFDI is currently using money from UK Government resources to help agricultural businesses, Defra is required to submit an application for an agricultural State Aid for both the Delivery Initiative and the Capital Grants Scheme
