Anaerobic Digestion in Agriculture: Policies and Markets for Growth
An International Workshop under the Methane to Markets Partnership

Kindersley Centre, Berkshire, United Kingdom. 29-30 November 2006

On 29-30 November 2006 Defra hosted an international workshop entitled Anaerobic Digestion in Agriculture: policies and markets for growth at the Kindersley Centre, Berkshire, UK. The workshop was done under the auspices of the Methane to Markets Partnership (M2M), an international initiative that has the overall aim of reducing global methane emissions. The UK Co-Chairs, with Argentina, the M2M Agriculture Sub-Committee.

An international line-up of delegates came together for collaborative discussions about agricultural methane capture and use projects worldwide. The workshop explored technical, information and market barriers and ways to overcome these in order to deliver successful anaerobic digestion (AD) projects through new markets.

AD has the potential to contribute positively to many of Defra’s high-level objectives, in particular our climate change objectives. AD allows the methane released from manure (and other types of wastes) to be captured and used as a clean energy source.
