e-FEP: Tips for completion

  1. All the necessary information must be completed on the e-FEP to ensure a successful electronic transfer into the Natural England computer system. Omissions or errors are likely to cause delays to processing as we will need to contact you to confirm/clarify information.
  2. Please see the following suggestions which should ensure submitted e-FEPs have a smooth transition into the Natural England computer system, minimizing the likelihood of queries.

Excel 'Environmental features datasheet'

a Macros Each time the spreadsheet is opened, a pop up box appears. To ensure that the spreadsheet to operates correctly it is essential that the [Enable Macros] button is selected.
b Land Parcel Numbers: use of "ditto" Please ensure a field number or boundary number is included for every row on the e-FEP. 'Ditto' will not be recognised as a valid entry by the computer system.
c Land Parcel Numbers: capital letters Please ensure all field numbers are entered using two CAPITAL letters (followed by eight numbers).
d Land Parcel Numbers: entering the same number several times After a field number has been entered once, then the FEP agent can use the 'Pick from list' function enter it on subsequent rows to save avoid having to type it out numerous times. (From within cell, right click on mouse, select 'Pick from list' to display all field numbers already entered).
e Notes column: 96 character limitation Please ensure that you do not enter more than 96 characters in each cell in the Notes column. This is to correspond to the maximum number of characters which are visible after the files have been converted ready for uploading into our computer system. The latest version of the spreadsheet will highlight the cell orange if >96 characters are entered, and the number of characters entered will be displayed in the next column. Customers should reduce the amount of text entered to <96 and exit the cell: the cell will then revert to white and the next column will be blank. Earlier version of the spreadsheet do not include this validation, so users should take care not to exceed 96 characters.
f Saving Save often to avoid losing data.

Adobe PDF form

a 3.1 Landscape Table Click below the words 'Yes' or 'No' to put ticks in the cells. If try to click on the words 'Yes' or 'No' then the cursor just grasps the page.
b Continuation sheets If you require a continuation page for any of your answers to the questions in parts 3, 4, 5 or 6 of the Adobe form then one can be created using the button at the end of the form, next to the Declaration in part 6.
c Saving Save often to avoid losing data. For the Adobe portion, it is recommended that you use the "save as" menu item which will take slightly longer than the standard 'save' function, but it will keep file sizes reasonable. Files may reach up to 2 MB in size if continually saved using the "save" function. This is a known Adobe feature.
