Water strategy - how will it affect me?

Water brings countless benefits to society. It is vital for health, wellbeing, drinking, sanitation, agriculture and industry. The strategy's vision includes benefits from angling, boating and other recreational activities, and floodplains which provide flood protection as well as landscapes people can enjoy and where wildlife can flourish. We cannot afford not to protect our water resources.

The water strategy will affect everyone in England, directly or indirectly, as it influences the policy framework for how water is supplied, consumed and utilised. It addresses direct water use – getting water from taps or abstracting it from the environment – as well as a range of activities which have an effect on the quality of the water in the environment. These range from farming, to fishing and boating, to washing a car in the street and disposing of liquids down the drains.
