Water resources: water scarcity

Area of water scarcity status: Folkestone and Dover Water Services' application

Elliot Morley, Minister of State for the Environment, made a statement to the House of Commons on 1 March 2006. He announced the Secretary of State’s approval of Folkestone and Dover Water Services’ application to be designated an area of water scarcity.

The designation begins on 1 April 2006 and will last for ten years. It will widen the company’s powers to meter its domestic customers. At present 40% of the company’s domestic customers are metered. The company plans to increase this to 90%.
