The 2004 periodic review of water price limits - October 2004

Final Guidance from the Secretary of State to the Director-General of Water Services

2004 periodic review of water price limits

In preparation for the 2004 Periodic Review of water price limits, the Secretary of State published her Final Guidance to the Director-General of Water Services on 4 October 2004.

Principal Guidance was issued in March 2004 and set out the Secretary of State's main decisions on which environmental and drinking water quality policies should proceed for the 2005-2010 period. This Final Guidance confirms the policies laid out in the Principal Guidance and also sets out a number of further improvements companies should undertake in a number of areas.

As announced in the Principal Guidance, Defra has also undertaken a Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) focussing on policies which go beyond existing commitments of the quality (drinking water and environment) programme for England only. The purpose of the RIA was to inform the decisions in the Final Guidance and it was published alongside the Guidance.

The Director-General of Water Services will announce final price limits on 2 December 2004.
