Cave Review of water markets

Dear Stakeholder,
As you may know, the Government announced an independent review of competition and innovation in the water and wastewater markets in Future Water – the Government’s Water Strategy for England. The press release is available at www.defra.gov.uk/news/2008/080207b.htm.
The aims of the review are to increase the efficiency of water use and deliver benefits to both business and household customers. The review will consider the scope to deliver benefits and drive innovation through developing competition and contestability in all aspects of the supply chain in the water and sewerage sector and will recommend changes to the legislative and regulatory frameworks needed to deliver those benefits.
Having been appointed to lead the review, I am contacting all interested parties to introduce myself, to set out the how the review will work with stakeholders in the initial stages and to advise you of the review’s contact details.
As a first step, the review team would like to hear from those stakeholders who would like to play an active role in the review, being invited to consultation events and presentations. Should you or your organisation wish to contribute in this way, I would ask you to contact the review team.
Later in the spring, we will issue a formal call for evidence to all stakeholders with regard to both innovation and competition. Where organisations and individuals have already responded to similar requests we will be happy to receive previous material with any additional observations.
