Why is it being done?
The review brings forward the Government’s commitment to review the eligibility threshold for non-household customers to choose suppliers introduced as part of Water Act 2003. At the same time, it will also undertake a wider review of the competition and innovation framework. The review aims to:
- deliver benefits to both business and household customers. This could be through lower bills, better service and more responsive products; and
- increase the efficiency and sustainability of water use.
through assessing the scope for competition and innovation throughout the water and sewerage industries. It will recommend changes to the legislative and regulatory frameworks needed to deliver those benefits.
When is it happening?
The review started in Spring 2008. A final report is likely to be published in Spring 2009.
How am I affected?
The independent review will make recommendations to Government. If you supply, use or produce water, wastewater or associated services, are a supplier to these industries, or you have a statutory responsibility for, or interest in, these sectors, the conclusions of the review may be relevant to you.
It will be for the Government to determine which of the reviews recommendations it will take forward.
Should I contribute?
If you have views about the future of competition or innovation in the water markets, we would encourage you to contribute to the review.
