Information for local authorities: performance management
The Government places great importance on achieving a more sustainable waste management, and local authorities have a vital role in this.
From April 2008, there is a new local government performance framework for waste with sets a new approach to improving performance. In the new performance framework, there are three new waste indicators:
- NI 191 – Residual household waste per household
- NI 192 – Household waste reused, recycled and composted
- NI 193 – Municipal waste land filled

The waste performance framework up to 2007/08
The new framework replaces the previous set of waste indicators and targets and the previous approach to setting local priorities. You can find here information on the old framework (up to and including 2007/08).
