Support to partnerships and further information
Defra is keen for joint working to become the preferred approach for waste service delivery. With our partners we are available to support authorities as they develop and progress their waste partnerships, including by facilitating the sharing of best practice and knowledge/information, and by helping them to overcome any barriers or obstacles encountered as they pursue their chosen approach.
A broad range of support and advice on various aspects of partnership working is available from:
- Improvement and Efficiency South East - the national lead on waste for the Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnerships
- The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP)
- Economies of Scale - Waste Management Optimisation Study
AEA Technology carried out work for Defra examining potential economies of scale in waste management and barriers to achieving them. This highlighted the importance of authorities sharing waste disposal facilities if we are to meet the EU landfill directive targets at least cost.
