There are many organisations and web sites dealing with environmental or waste management issues - the following list only highlights a few that we think will be of particular interest or relevance to users of these pages.
- The Environment Agency is a major environmental regulator in England and Wales.
- In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the devolved administrations are responsible for strategy and policy relating to waste management.
- WRAP - the Waste and Resources Action Programme was set up as a result of the Waste Strategy, to promote the development of markets for recycled materials.
- Waste Watch - Waste Watch is a national charity established in 1987, supported by members, business, local Government, Defra and funding via the Landfill Tax Credits Scheme and the National Lottery, to promote environmental and wider benefits of waste minimisation and recycling.
- National Waste Awareness Initiative - The National Waste Awareness Initiative (NWAI) is targeted predominantly at the general public.
- Rethink Rubbish - National waste minimisation campaign.
- Envirowise - practical environmental advice for business
- The Composting Association
- Waste Guide - Fairly comprehensive, useful guide to all aspects of waste management.
- Oultwood - International local government website index.
- Locate your nearest recycling point courtesy of Valpak.
- National Waste Directory - Directory of waste disposal sites, transfer stations and recycling facilities in the UK. Not fully comprehensive.
- Capital Waste Facts - a website developed in partnership by the Greater London Authority (GLA) and London Remade, a business that specialises in finding or encouraging markets for waste that can be recycled. Provides data and information about municipal waste collection across the London boroughs.
- Milk Deliveries - find out if your local milkman uses re-usable glass bottles.
- The Association of Charity Shops - member organisation dedicated to supporting charities that run shops as part of their fundraising activities. Members range from the largest national charities to locally based hospices.
- ICLEI in Europe - Local Governments for sustainability
- Waste Solutions web centre
- Waste Information Network (WIN) - a support tool for the waste management sector in local authorities, providing up to date information on all aspects of waste management.

Contacting Defra
Waste Strategy Division is responsible for the Waste Strategy; operation of the Landfill Directive and the Landfill Tax; local authority waste funding; management, minimisation, recovery, re-use and recycling of waste. Waste Management Division is responsible for implementation of the EC framework directive on waste, for waste management licensing, international waste shipments, hazardous waste and for producer responsibility.
