2000 Countryside Survey

The Countryside Survey 2000 (CS2000) [20] funded by Defra, the Natural Environment Research Council and other sponsors, gives important and unique data on the landscape and habitats of Great Britain. This survey carried out in 1998 (referred to as CS2000) builds on field surveys undertaken in previous years (1990, 1984, 1978) and therefore allows temporal change in the countryside to be assessed. A similar Northern Ireland Countryside survey has also been completed (NICS2000).

Further details of how the surveys were conducted are given in the Topic on Land Use and Land Cover. The results of the Countryside Survey 2000 are available from the web site.

Countryside Survey has investigated the change in quality or condition of terrestrial and freshwater habitats by examining changes in diversity in plant species and freshwater animals (macro-invertebrates).
