National Statistics Quality Review of Biodiversity Statistics

Biodiversity Statistics cover all living organisms, including those from terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems. The information they provide is important for monitoring the effectiveness of conservation measures and is a relevant consideration in many public, private and non-governmental decisions and policies.

The review covers statistics on mammals, birds, butterflies, other insects, reptiles, fish, amphibians, plants and other flora and fauna. It is required in order to assess how robust our current information is, to determine whether it is relevant and fit for purpose and to gain a better understanding of the quality and quantity of information that is potentially available.

A PDF version of the Project Initiation Document can be downloaded from here (PDF 110kb). Within the document details can be found on the main objectives, the scope of the review and the project plan.

Part of the review is intended to gain a clearer understanding of how the data are used.
