Definitions

Biodiversity
the total range of the variety of life on earth or in any given part of it.
Phocid distemper virus
belongs to the group of viruses known as morbilliviruses, which includes human measles. The phocid distemper virus is distinctly different from others in the group in that it appears to affect only seals. This virus causes high mortality rates, particularly for common seals.
Spraints
otters' faeces.
Springtails
primitive wingless insects of the order collembolla.
Thermal imaging camera
highly sensitive infra-red detecting camera used successfully to carry out surveys of seal populations at landing sites.
