Electricity from renewable sources has grown rapidly in recent years, accounting for 4.7 per cent of electricity generated in the UK in 2006.

Hydro power remains the largest renewable source, generating nearly 5GWh in 2006, but the largest increases between 1996 and 2006 have been for landfill gas combustion and wind gneration (3.7GWh increase for both). and co-firing of biomass with fossil fuels (2.5GWh).
