How UK Emissions are Measured
This section gives background information and outlines the methodology underpinning measurements of greenhouse gas emissions.
Cause
UK Emissions of Carbon Dioxide, Methane and Nitrous Oxide by National Communication Source Category

Emissions of greenhouse gases are the main man-made cause of climate change. The majority of these emissions are UK national figures. They are broken down into individual gases and also by source and on an ‘end user’ basis. For ‘end user' the emissions are reallocated from the production and distribution of Energy to the users of that energy. The carbon dioxide emissions for local authority (NUTS4) and Government Office Region (NUTS1) areas for the year 2004 are defined as experimental statistics as the methodology used is still under development and results should not be compared from year to year.

Effect
 Average surface temperature

These are a selection of the effects of climate change with the majority only covering the UK. Please be aware that changes in climate occur over prolonged periods of several years and therefore longer term trends should be examined rather than changes for individual years.
