Concentrations of dissolved metals in estuaries

Concentrations of dissolved metals in selected estuaries

Information on the concentrations of dissolved metals in estuary waters was collected for the first phase of the UK National Monitoring Programme by the Environment Agency. This data, together with relevant Environmental Quality Standards (EQSs) are summarised in Table 7 for selected estuaries. Where samples were below the limit of detection, zero values have been taken. The locations of the sampling points in different parts of the estuaries are shown in Figure 2. The average values given for each estuary are derived by taking the mean of the average values for each sampling point in the estuary and are not directly comparable with the EQSs. The values do indicate, however, general concentrations relative to the standards.

The second phase of the UK National Monitoring Programme started in 1999 and aims to measure the temporal trends of contaminants in UK coastal waters.
