SECRETARIAT AIMS
- maintain the effectiveness and efficiency of the Commission as an independent body by ensuring the appropriate objectives and targets are identified relating them to the resources required to achieve them, and reviewing and evaluating outputs.
- provide high quality support to the Chairman and members of the Commission. including
maintaining and developing the systems required for the work of the Commission;
recording accurately all substantive points stemming from Commission meetings and discussions;
making all arrangements required for the submission of written and oral evidence, presentations and visits, and the employment of consultants and special advisers;
making information available to members rapidly and reliably;
drafting reports, and any other Commission statements as instructed by the Chairman and members.
- ensure that all Commission reports and statements continue to meet the highest standards of accuracy and authoritativeness, in particular
ensure members have information about the relevant policy context for Commission studies at national. European and international level;
ensure the Commission is aware of new developments of other kinds and has taken all relevant interests into account
identify and obtain other information which has a material bearing on Commission studies
carry out consultation research and checking to finalise and verify the content of Commission reports.
