Noise and Nuisance - Research Reports

Domestic Noise Complaints

This research was commissioned by the former DETR to increase the understanding of Domestic Noise Complaints. The research, undertaken by BRE, seeks to investigate the trends and issues involved in reported domestic noise complaints. The scope of the project was restricted to a general analysis of a sample of 3136 complaints made to a group of 10 Local Authorities from England and Wales during the summer (July - September) of 1995. The study was completed in July 1997. The report seeks to provide insights into the issue of domestic noise complaints and to encourage debate that will further our understanding of the problem and assist in the search for solutions.
