These reports were prepared at a time when Defra was consulting on whether to extend Pollution Prevention and Control Regulations to apply to sewage treatment works.
The courts subsequently ruled that the statutory nuisance regime under sections 79 to 82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applies to sewage treatment works, so Pollution Prevention and Control Regulations only apply to a small number of the larger sewage treatment works. This report may be updated in the future.
