LIFE: Making an application
LIFE+ applications
If you are planning to make an application to LIFE+, you must contact the UK National Contact Point, Beta Technology, who will help you through the application process and provide further information about the programme requirements.
The application forms, along with advice about completing them and guidance about how applications will be assessed, can be downloaded from the EU-LIFE website.
Proposal eligibility
Please remember that LIFE is policy related and that your proposal should take forward EU environmental policy or demonstrate best practice. LIFE+ will “not finance measures that fall within the eligibility criteria and main scope of, or receive assistance for the same purpose from, other Community financial instruments” (Article 9 of the LIFE+ Regulation). More advice about EC environmental policy is available from the Commission website.
Ensure that you complete all the forms properly and provide all the necessary supporting information by the application deadline.
Nature and Biodiversity and Forest Fire Prevention projects
Please note that completion of the A8 form in the application pack is mandatory for all proposals submitted under LIFE+ Nature and LIFE+ Biodiversity and for those proposals under LIFE+ Information and Communication that aim to contribute to forest fire prevention. This form needs to be signed off by the relevant competent national authority before you submit your application to Beta Technology. Further information on the procedure and relevant contacts for this activity are available on the Beta Technology website.
Support for Non Government Organisations
The Commission has retained a portion of the LIFE+ funds for funding activities that are best carried out an EU level. One of these areas is support for European non-governmental organisations primarily active in the field of environmental protection legally registered in the EU27. The maximum co-financing rate (overall assistance from the EU) is set at 70 per cent. To be eligible organisations should:
- Have been legally constituted for more than 2 years and have had its annual statement of accounts for the two preceding years certified by an approved auditor;
- Be operating at a European level, either singlely or in the form of several co-ordinated associations, with a structure (membership base) and activities covering at least three EU Member States; and
- Their Activities and membership base should primarily be at a European and not at an international level.
Proposals will be assessed on policy relevance and potential impact of involvement in Community environmental policy-shaping and implementation, in relation to the following priority areas: 1) Climate Change; 2) Nature and Biodiversity; 3) Environment and Health; 4) Natural Resources and Waste; and 5) Horizontal or Cross-cutting issues (such as standardisation). In addition, environmental education, enlargement and third countries are also areas of interest.
The Commission will announce calls on its website.
