Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international organisation of 30 member countries (comprising the most developed countries in the world), committed to democracy and market economy. It helps governments tackle the economic, social and environmental challenges of a globalised economy. The UK is a member of the OECD.

Environmental Performance Reviews
The OECD carries out regular environmental performance reviews of its members. The principal aim of the environmental performance reviews is to help member countries improve their individual and collective performance in environmental management. These peer reviews take place for each member country, every eight years. The first review on the UK was carried out in 1994 and the second one took place in 2002.

In January 2006 the UK published a mid-term review of progress against the OECD recommendations. The next UK review is due around 2010.
