1. Apologies for absence

Apologies for absence were received from Jim Orson.

2. Minutes of last meeting

Already approved and publicly available of the FSE website.

3. FSE draft papers

In closed session the SSC reviewed progress with each draft paper that will make up the portion of the final FSE report dealing with spring-sown crops. The content of each paper, and the overall structure of the papers as a series, was approved, subject in some cases to limited further changes.

4. Future action to approve FSE papers

The SSC agreed that the sub-groups would be given one more opportunity to view each of the final draft papers. When the committee is content, the papers will then be signed-off as ready for submission to the journal. This phase will be conducted by correspondence.

5. Update on progress by research consortium

The consortium informed the SSC that all work on winter oilseed rape was continuing to plan.

6. Update on progress by secretariat

The SSC was informed that plans for the non-specialist summary were in place and awaiting final drafts of the papers, after which writing would begin.

8. AOB

The SSC discussed a proposed study on gene flow utilising the winter oil seed rape fields. Members were content that the proposal as described would not interfere with the ecological studies and requested to be kept informed of the outcomes.

9. Next meeting

A provisional meeting was scheduled for 4th June 2003 and a subsequent meeting was confirmed for 26th November 2003.
