Consumer Products: the European Ecolabel
Ecolabel product stories
Ecolabel for top Australian wool
iZWool International in Australia has been awarded the Ecolabel for its high performance wool jersey material for active outdoor wear, selling to international markets, including the UK.
iZWool is owned by Australian wool growers specialising in wool marketing and wool supply chain management. The company is committed to the production and delivery of quality assured Merino wool, from farm gate to retailer, and the Ecolabel reflects the importance it attaches to the environment as well as effective global marketing.
Adventure clothing
Stuart Adams, the company's Managing Director, explains: "Our core
business is to promote merino wool under the brand of 'intelligent merino'
or 'i-merino' into the European and North American outdoor and adventure
apparel market. We believe merino wool is the most sustainable performance
fibre available."
'i-merino' fabrics are quality and environmentally assured across the entire supply chain.
"We utilise unique electronic supply chain systems to oversee the entire production process and guarantee the integrity of the merino wool across the entire supply chain, a truly intelligent way of delivering natural products to the consumer."
Practical approach
"The practical approach of the Ecolabel for consideration of the entire life cycle of the product is important to us as is the establishment of the Ecolabel criteria, achieved with the input of industry and non government organisations. Europe is a major user of Australian merino wool and we want to start influencing Australian merino wool growers to consider the Ecolabel standards for their merino wool production. We have adopted the Ecolabel as we believe it will become the global standard for fabric production."
Ecolabelled 'i-merino' fabric samples have been despatched to several
European outdoor companies. The feedback on the performance of the fabrics
has been excellent. "This is tremendous progress for our company,
and the Australian merino wool industry, in developing intelligent production
solutions and sustainable 'Eco' certified merino fabrics."
'i-merino' swing tags are available for every garment made from the company's fabric which provide the consumer with information on the unique story of the fibre within their garment.
