Consumer Products: The European Ecolabel

How to apply

You’ll need our Guide for Applicants, which we can e-mail you, and the separate application form for the product group you’re interested in. The Guide gives clear step-by-step information about how to apply, the costs involved, and how to get the most out of the Ecolabel.

The full criteria for the current product groups covered by the scheme are on the European Commission website. It’s useful to start by reading these, because they say exactly what standards products must reach to obtain the Ecolabel. For some criteria you need to demonstrate compliance by submitting independently certified test results.

Once the application has been approved, the Ecolabel Flower can be displayed on the same product sold in any member state. There is an application fee (£300 in the UK), and an annual fee for using the label (0.15% of annual sales of the product), both with discounts for small and medium-sized enterprises and certain other applicants.
