Advisory Committee on Consumer Products and the Environment

The Advisory Committee on Consumer Products and the Environment (ACCPE) provided advice to the Government on policies to reduce the environmental impacts of products and services.

Following the conclusion of its work - the committee has now closed

ACCPE final comments and recommendations (September 2005, PDF 106 KB). ACCPE’s final report looks at the need for organisational arrangements to drive forward the products agenda, and the potential for a ‘product body’. It also outlines some of the Committee’s further thoughts on the use of Environmental Impact Assessment of products and the role that Government can play in promoting them.

The Committtee's work covered areas such as:

  • environmental impacts - generated by the production and consumption of consumer products
  • integrated policies - to look at the impacts of products across their whole life cycle
  • measures or tools - for increasing the demand for and supply of 'greener' products
  • information tools consumers need - to make greener choices
  • ways of improving green claims - by manufacturers and retailers
  • actions by large purchasers (such as the Government, and retailers) - to help move the market towards greener products
