Carbon offsetting links

The Government is developing at Code of best practice for carbon offsetting. We hope to have publish this around the end of the year. Offset providers can then apply for accreditation and will be awarded with a quality mark to help consumers to identify offsets that meet Government best practice. We hope to have a consumer-facing launch of the quality mark, and have the first companies accredited, in spring 2008.

Previously, this page contained a list of offset providers who sold offsets that utilised Kyoto-compliant credits (ie CERs or EUAs). We identified these credits as they met the Government’s original consultation proposals for developing the Code. This was not an exhaustive list and the companies listed were not endorsed or accredited by Government. We have decided to remove this list until the requirements of the Code are finalised and it is published. Once this has happened offset providers can apply for accreditation and will be assessed by an independent accreditation body. A register of those companies who are accredited under the Code, and have been awarded with the quality mark, will then be published on this website.
