Climate change agreements

Note: Defra intends that this web page should remain in place for the life of these agreements, as a reference.

Umbrella Agreements

Defra has been negotiating with trade bodies representing energy intensive business sectors for climate change agreements. In these agreements the sector undertakes to meet a challenging energy efficiency or carbon saving target in return for an 80% discount from the levy. Ultimately, there are expected to be some forty climate change agreements.

The agreements with the trade bodies, known as umbrella agreements, are public documents and are being placed on this website as soon as they have been signed. They contain lists of facilities which will be subject to the 80% discount, sector targets, and conditions which apply to participating companies.

Documents available

Agreement documents for the following industry sectors are available for downloading, in Adobe Acrobat format. The Adobe® Acrobat Reader® can be freely downloaded. Viewers with visual difficulties may find it useful to investigate services provided to improve the accessibility of Acrobat documents - http://access.adobe.com/.

Whilst we have used our best endeavours to ensure that the documents here are an accurate replica of the original, signed agreements, the latter would naturally take precedence in the event of any differences.
