EU chemicals policy - REACH

Questions and answers: Introduction

This series of “questions and answers” serves as a guide to the final REACH text agreed by the European Parliament the Council of Ministers of the EU (representing Member State Governments including the UK) on 18 December 2006.  The REACH Regulation was subject to the “co-decision” process which means that the European Parliament had an equal role in deciding on the final text.

It should be noted that a brief series of “questions and answers” cannot go into the full detail of every aspect of the REACH Regulation.  A detailed set of “questions and answers” on REACH can be found via the websites of the Commission services, the European Chemicals Agency, and the UK REACH Competent Authority. This series of “questions and answers” is not formal guidance on the obligations that will be imposed by REACH.  It is for information only. Please refer to the final Regulation for details of the current text.
