Marketing your product

Giving clear, straightforward information on the environmental performance of products has benefits for both consumers and business alike.

By providing information about the environmental effects and qualities of products, and how to use and dispose of them, environmental claims (sometimes called “green” claims) help consumers to make informed buying choices.

They also help to raise awareness of the issues, enhance consumer understanding and improve product standards overall.   At the same time businesses can enhance their credentials and demonstrate that they are acting responsibly to consumers, other business partners and regulators. 

Environmental labels or logos and declaration schemes can also often serve the same purpose, by acting as a visual indicator that a product has achieved a particular standard of environmental excellence or that it should be disposed of in a certain way.  In this section you can find information and advice about green labelling, green claims and the Ecolabel scheme
