Environmental technologies for sustainable contruction

In January 2004 the UK and Sweden held a workshop to discuss joint proposals to overcome barriers to the uptake of environmental technologies.

The construction industry was identified as an area where new technologies could make a big difference.

Because of the manner in which the built environment consumes energy and natural resources, it is responsible for some of the most serious global and local environmental challenges.

In Malmö, Sweden, in June 2005, a joint UK-Swedish project to highlight and share best practice, and stimulate the uptake of new technologies, in sustainable construction was launched.

The project has garnered the enthusiasm and participation of academics, industry leaders, NGOs and government, and the initiative is led by a business-focused steering group comprising representatives from both countries.

The project website contains best practice guidance and case studies, and encourages the submission of new case studies as well as linking projects with UK/Swedish partners.
