Environmental Technologies Action Plan

The EC published the Environmental Technologies Action Plan (ETAP) in January 2004.

The ETAP out 28 actions that aim to stimulate innovation and address barriers that make it difficult for environmental technologies to successfully penetrate the marketplace.

It is being implemented through the Open Method of Coordination, which encourages non-legislative approaches including sharing best practice and benchmarking.

UK priorities include green public procurement, the development of new funds to help companies bring new technologies to market, and revisions to state aid guidance.

We also have a bilateral initiative with Sweden, focusing on increasing the use of environmental technologies in construction and sharing best practice.

Defra has produced a national roadmap PDF (228 KB) for the UK, setting out how the ETAP will be implemented. The Commission is asking for roadmaps from all Member States, in order to set out an EU-level implementation plan.
