Air Quality Expert Group

The Air Quality Expert Group (AQEG) is an advisory group that provides independent scientific advice on air quality, in particular the air pollutants contained in the Air Quality Strategy (AQS) for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and those covered by the EU Directive on ambient air quality assessment and management (Air Quality Framework Directive).

  • 29 January 2009: Review Of The Air Quality Expert Group Stage 1

Defra reviews all of its advisory bodies as standard to ensure the right advice is provided in the best way. This report, conducted by an independent consultancy, details stage 1 of the review process. In summary, stage 1 found that AQEG has made a significant contribution to Defra’s objectives and commitments on air quality, and has delivered detailed, authoritative reports on key issues for Defra. Stage 2, which will follow on from this report, will determine how the AQEG can be improved to better meet the needs of Defra.
