  This page summarises the work of the ACRE subgroup on post-market monitoring.

The group was established in 2001. It last reported its progress to ACRE in July 2004 and has completed its contribution to ACRE’s work plan. However the committee can reconvene a sub-group in order to revise reports or provide additional guidance documents where appropriate.

Terms of reference

The ACRE subgroup had the following terms of reference:

  • To advise ACRE on post-market monitoring issues which are identified with respect to the release of genetically modified organisms into the environment under the Deliberate Release Directive 2001/18/EEC;
  • To identify and consider potential mechanisms for post-market monitoring and advise ACRE on how these should be addressed in the monitoring plan and the environmental risk assessment;
  • The subgroup could consult or seek wider views in the course of its deliberations;
  • The subgroup reported only to ACRE. ACRE monitored the work of the subgroup.

Mode of working

The group had a core membership made up of experts in entomology, ecology, plant biology, conservation, biodiversity and farming. Invited guests provided additional expertise in specific areas.

One informal preparatory meeting was held in 2001 with six formal meetings and intervening email correspondence.
